Assessment - Final Planning check 08th Nov SJA

www:

  • WOW! Brittany, what a fantastic blog to read through and enjoy! I have really enjoyed looking over your blog. It's very visual, engaging and shows loads of really thoughtful creativity and excellence in the use of media to explore your concept and communicate your ideas.
  • Every post is visual, and when I read your thoughts, there is a real sense that your clearly and genuinely engaged with the task - not just going through the motions. You seem to enjoy what you are working on- and this comes through in your posts. They are actually 'interesting' to read.
  • Excellent photoshop work on CD cover designs, etc. I am very much looking forward to seeing what you and Charlotte produce.
Well done!

some suggested ebi's:
  • For 'technical tutorials' - did you produce a short edited clip in Final Cut? if so, upload it.
  • - Song Details - really good idea to film yourself and Charlotte talking to camera - could perhaps re-edit this imovie by including the track playing softly in the back ground - or making reference to some key lyrics somehow... Would give the reader / viewer a better feel for the song
  • - Storyboards - the Animatic is great. To really show anyone marking your blog that you have an excellent knowledge of technical terms, perhaps come back to your storyboards (the paper copies) and include more technical info - comments on lighting, camera movement... framing / composition, etc... etc. There doesn't seem to be much of this info here at the moment...
  • Check that all posts have clear labels
Overall, this is Excellent Brittany. You should feel really proud of what you have done and you have clearly invested loads of time on your work. I am really looking forward to seeing your concept come to life in your music video!

Planning posts - checking your progress Oct 16th SJA

www:
  • The planning posts on 'Initial Ideas' and job roles show effort and some imaiginative use of ICT to present and communicate ideas.
  • The use of short iMovie to communicate your 'initial ideas' is really effective. I think you also did something similiar for your post on 'Image Annotation' - but there seems to be a copyright bar on this now - so you will have to come back and re-think how to present your ideas.
  • I thought your practice CD cover on photoshop looked really good - you selected an excellent photograph that seemed really suited to the idea of 'artist' and similiar representations in this genre. The font choice also worked really well with the simplicity of your image, as did the sepia effect. Nice work on this.

ebi:
  • I am quite concerned at how many posts are missing from 'Planning' so far Brittany? I thought you had been busy working on this??
  • You obviously need to come back to the post on 'Technical tutorials' - and upload your greeenscreen / final cut work to this.
  • Lyrics post has the lyrics, but nothing else?? You need to sit down with Charlotte and a print out of the lyrics and really thoroughly annotate every line to show your thoughts and ideas (where do you plan to shoot scenes? How will you communicate the narrative? Specific camera shots / ideas you want to incorporate?) Posts on 'Song Details', 'Lyrics' and 'Concept' all need more work.
  • Where is your photoshop work for the advert planning / ideas? This needs to be there. You also need to provide written explanation about your ideas / thinking behind the image of Jade you used for the CD cover design practice task. Please don't just upload an image without any explanation Charlotte.
Planning progress so far: IN (Improvement Needed) - you know you have work to catch up on Brittany. I know it will end up looking amazing, but try to stay on top of it to avoid putting yourself through all the grief of last minute rushing. To reach the top of Level 4 (which is what you are certainly aiming for) you really need to show creativity, innovation, imagination and ICT technical flair for every post. The 'Planning' section of your blog really should provide you with loads of opportunities to demonstrate all of these things.

Final Assessment 'RESEARCH' Oct 10th SJA

www:

- Well done for going back through teacher feedback thoroughly and investing so much energy and time in getting your Research section completed to a really high standard Brittany.
- All posts are visual, with many of an 'excellent' standard of thought, creativity in presentation and revealing excellent subject knowledge. I really like the use of very short 'extracts' from music videos, and the use of gifs throughout.
- Your analytical posts are really interesting to read, as you clearly are thinking carefully about how artists working within different genres choose to represent themselves.
- Your analysis of the audience questionnaire was excellent, and I hope the findings will be of good use in your planning.

ebi (for Planning & Evaluation Sections now):

- Time management is always going to be a key issue as the next few months progress. You are going to be really busy - that is just part of it all Brittany I'm afraid. Time management is also one of the assessment criteria for your coursework - so please set aside your free periods to use the media rooms as much as you can to get the tasks done - to a consistantly high standard.
- Always think of ways (and be prepared to allow yourself time) to really come up with creative and unique ways to present each posts - make sure you use functions like the YouTube tagging feature, or a voice over commentary to talk through any analytical posts. Use JING to 'show' technical skill - this will boost your mark in this aspect of your blog.
- Be super organised in the Planning stages of your music video now - None of your work over the coming weeks can be thrown together - you will need to storyboard, plan effectively, try out lighting, etc, etc... Always document this and keep on top of blog posts.
- You need to clearly LABEL all of your posts under 'Research' and 'Planning'

Overall mark for RESEARCH section: Level 4... there is really some excellent work here, please make sure this continues, with no inconsistency in the quality of your posts.
The 'Planning' section should give you the opportunity to really show off what you can do in terms of presentation, use of ICT, and clever, creative communication of your thoughts and ideas.

Assessment 'RESEARCH' SJA 03/10/11

www:
  • Brittany, parts of your blog are a real joy to read - it's obvious that you are thinking carefully about conventions of Pop and Rock videos and there's signs that you are really trying to push the blog to its full potential for some posts
  • Good use of gif's for a few posts - and good use of contact sheets.
  • Some very insightful analysis for some posts where you have been asked to analyse adverts and album covers
  • You have so much potential in Media, but I do feel as though this blog does not reflect the levels you were achieving in Year 12 at this stage Brittany, still quite a bit of work to complete for the 'Research Section'
ebi:
  • Post 1 - Brief - is very... brief!!? Perhaps a little more detail would show what an A Grade student can do...
  • Post 8 - Conventions of a music video - still no visuals - push the blog to be really visual and exciting to read / look at - this is the perfect post to show your ICT skills and to make really creative
  • Post 9 - Theories - Bordwell - Missing?
  • Post 11 - Theories - Goodwin - missing?
  • Post 13 - Mood Board - needs a paragraph to explain why / how artists working within this genre want to be represented (remember you have a high target grade.... work for it...)
  • Post 14 - Really good post for 'Bad Day' - good to see gifs included, the other two posts you have contain good contact sheets - could you be more creative? Still 2 posts missing for this??
  • Post 15 - Genre conventions - good to see moving gifs - but really very brief and vague comments that don't really show a sophisticated understanding of the genre conventions at all - I hope you want to show an examiner that you can obviously do better than this and display wider knowledge here...
  • Post 16 - CD cover analysis - only one (a very good one for 'Local Natives'...) but 2 missing?
  • Post 17 - Record label research - Needs one more? The two entries you have for this are very good.
  • Post 18 - Advert research - only one there? Needs 3?
  • Post 19 - Audience Survey - needs to be posted / scanned in
  • Post 20 - good graphs, but you will need to analyse to show / explain how you intend to use these results in your music video ideas
Overall assessment: IN (IMPROVEMENT NEEDED) - Referral for underachievement. Brittany, it's disappointing to see so many gaps missing in your blog this time. You need to prioritise getting this totally sorted out this week and making sure every post is 100% complete and every post is striving towards an 'A' grade - be creative, clever, and visual in your posts. There's too much work missing.

You have until Friday Oct 7th to get this completed before the absolute final mark. Do not let yourself down with work that is currently less impressive than what you did in Year 12.

Assessment 16th September

Brittany,
WWW
Some summer work posts are highly detailed and insightful. You use Media Language appropriately.
Theres a lot of in depth work here.Well done. You have completed most of the work from last year and the lip sync task once you have the music sorted looks really good.Well done!
EBI
Some patchy effort in some posts- try to be consistent..The conventions of a music video post seems unoriginal. In the Sun Commentary? I don't hear it?

Overall;  a Good effort. JIN. I do feel you can do EVEN better than this Brittany!

Assessment 13th July JIN

Brittany,
WWW:
You have completed 50% of the work from last term. When it is completed it is to a high standard. Lots of visuals, insightful comment and use of Media Language.
EBI: You still need to complete your own choice lip sync task, a relfection of editing In the Sun and this then needs to be uploaded.

Overall effort needs improvment. JIN
